Fantastic Experimental Latino Theater (FELT), Inc.

The Fantastic Experimental Latino Theater (FELT), Inc. is dedicated to strengthening and developing artistic and cultural awareness of Latinos in New York City while engaging audiences of all backgrounds through innovative, thought-provoking theater, film, and multimedia productions. Our work reflects the richness, diversity, and complexity of the Latino experience while fostering dialogue across cultures and generations. A central part of our mission is to develop, produce, and present the work of women artists,

Since our founding in 1994, FELT has produced 40 full-length theatrical productions, many of them original works. These include “Betty’s Garage,” exploring domestic violence; “At Risk,” focusing on the challenges facing today’s youth; “Crystal,” portraying the turbulent lives of four urban teenagers seeking guidance, hope, and love. Crystal has also received international recognition with productions in Estonia (twice), Romania, Cork, Ireland, and Budapest.

Other productions include “For the Love of Liz,” addressing women’s empowerment and world peace; “Positive Women,” based on the true stories of Latina women living with HIV/AIDS; a New York City adaptation of “The Imaginary Invalid”; “The Misstep of a Salsa Dancer”; “Screaming in Silence,” a multidisciplinary work combining poetry, music, and movement to expose the lasting impact of abuse

FELT continues to expand its artistic reach through collaborations with filmmakers, cultural organizations, and community partners. In partnership with SEA, FELT presented “Subway Story” and “Life of the Painter”.  In collaboration with La Casa de la Herencia Puertorriqueña, FELT produced “Tribute to the Feminine Spirit,” featuring the monologue “Carmen Pabón Presente.” a Puerto Rican community leader and activist from the Lower East Side. and “The War Still Within Us,” a performance piece centered on the experiences of Korean “Comfort Women” who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. Each performance was followed by a community discussion led by Dr. Chandra Llewellyn. FELT cooperated in the production of the film “I’m Julia” ,,,, caught in the Bully’s lair. A film by Carrere Films International.

Among our innovative initiatives was “The Golden Years Theater,” a production showcasing original works by playwrights and directors over the age of 50. Additional productions include the family musical “My Friend the Tree,” presented through Carnegie Hall’s Nuestras Voces initiative, and “Last Request,” produced in collaboration with The Clemente’s HISTORIAS program.
